The sea has always been a wonder place for mankind and its yet to fully explored. Many people love to swim and see the world down under. Engineers have designed and developed an amazing new gadgets, for a easy and fast swim. Its actually a fin made out from Carbon fiber and fiber glass, it been named as the Lunocet. The fin has been inspired from the fin of a dolphin. Below you can see a video of this gadget in work.

It weighs 2.5-pound (1.1kg) fin that is attached to an Aluminum foot plate at a precise 30-degree angle. Lunocet is almost 42-inch (1 meter) wide which is with three times the surface area of conventional swim fins.

Its been claimed that Lunocet users have already hit about eight miles (13 km) per hour, nearly twice as fast as Olympic Gold Medal swimmer Michael Phelps at his speediest. This is really an amazing stat to read and it gives you a good idea of how good this gadget really is.

About the basic mechanism, Frank Fish a marine biologist at West Chester University of Pennsylvania says

The mechanism functions like a wing to generate a lift force, which is directed forward and turned into thrust

The price of this cool gadget is about $1,250-$1,500.

  2. This will kinda urk me if this thing becomes a hot item. I've been a snorkel / scuba freak for years now.

I made something like this out of fiberglass, and then a hard plastic a few years back. I actually still have them, and use them when it's suiting. Wonder if it's not too late for a patent.. :P

I say I only use them when "fitting" because they do take away some freedom of maneuverability, as opposed to individual fins.
