New Virtual Reality Technology - The Virtual Cocoon

Virtual reality is now has a whole new meaning, thanks to the British scientists who have designed a helmet namely as the 'Virtual Cocoon'. This new device would give you the real time experience and not only that you can smell,taste and feel the atmosphere in which you will be watching in this helmet. This is such an amazing and brilliant invention, just imagine you sitting in your room and watching African lions passing by your eyes and you feeling like you are really there !!

The device has to be worn like a helmet, although it doesn't looks like one. As you can see in the above picture, look how big the screen is. Not only that with surround sound and other technologies in work, it won't let down your expectations.

Lets see how the device actually gonna give you the smell,taste and real time experience.


As you can see in the above pic (click pic to enlarge if you want to), there are:

• 4 speakers for surround sound
• Wireless connectivity with the source computer
• Fan to give cold and hot air
• High definition screen using LED and LCD technology
• Device for giving out five basic tastes i.e. sweet,sour,meaty,salty and bitter
• Smell tube for releasing smell under the nose

This device sure is way steps ahead of the earlier virtual reality technology we know.Professor David Howard of the University of York said:

VR projects have typically only focused on one or two of the five senses - usually sight and hearing.

The Virtual Cocoon would sure bring in some flavor in our lives and also the way we used to do things. Students could get the experience to study subjects with great interest, like studying history or science. Moreover, there could be number of un-countable uses of this very device.

However, it would take 5years to be fully completed. The price would be around £1,500 ($2100).
